The chair: a piece with a lot of tradition and good good design
"The chair", is the nickname that United States chose for the Round chair (PP501) and it has every reason to be called this way. This piece of furniture is more than a chair for me, it is a piece of Danish design that awakens my senses. Try to touch it with your hands following the curves of the wood, observe how the joints have been worked and finally the functionality, simplicity and aesthetics of this famous chair.

It is a chair that fulfills all the functions of one, there is no doubt, but it goes much further. Hans Wegner, the creator, aimed to create a piece of furniture based on the essential elements of a chair using wood as the material that would shape his design. Only glue joins each of the pieces, there are no nails or screws involved, only perfect joints. An organic and lightweight design, far from the heavy furniture of its time.

Currently, with the help of CNC technology, the pieces can be turned more quickly, even so, craftsmen need to assemble the pieces and give them the last details to make it ready. Watch this video of how the process of its creation is.
Every detail has been so well thought out, developed and prototyped to ensure its stability that it ends up being the chair from which to learn to create chairs. I love this chair and yes, I need to save a lot to buy the 6 that I need for my dining room. I would not buy an imitation, furniture or objects like that with such tradition, passion and creativity should not be underestimated. On the contrary, we should value what is done in this way and what takes its time of creation, don’t you think?
Have a beautiful day!

Beautiful craftsmanship! My mom has also filled her home with chairs verses couches. She believes they are a piece of artwork, more comfortable and practical. I’ll have to share this with her!

My mother always loved Danish Modern furniture back in the 50’s and 60’s when mid century modern was becoming a thing, so I grew up with this type of furniture my entire life. I am happy to see these beautiful pieces starting to make a come back again.

It’s such a funny thing to realize what artwork and craftsmanship goes into something we take so for granted. Such a beautiful thing, for sure.
