How to choose the best vanity lighting for your bathroom
Like all rooms at home, there are many activities that are carried out in each of them. And this is very important to consider when we see the lighting design. The bathroom has different areas such as the vanity area, the shower and / or bathtub, the toilet. Maybe if it’s a bigger bathroom you have a full-length mirror, a towel closet or even a wall with paintings of your choice. Today’s post focuses on how to choose the best vanity lighting in your bathroom.
The lighting of the bathroom vanity is very important, and above all functional. If you thought that just having an illumination from the ceiling of your bathroom is enough, I’ll tell you that it’s not like that. If it is a guest bathroom with perhaps a spot on the ceiling and a small pendant lamp near the mirror, is more than enough. This is because the guest bathroom is small and is not used more than necessary, that is, only when your guests use it.

But if we talk about the vanity area in your master bathroom, then take these considerations into account:
Use of dimmers
This first recommendation goes for the general lighting of your bathroom. Always try to have a dimmer for your lamps. Especially to use it in the mornings when you just get up and go to the bathroom. Thus, you achieve a dim effect of light until using its maximum power. Smart solutions for the home range from Philips Hue (which we use at home and it’s only for light bulbs) to Lutron that encompasses lighting, temperature and curtains. There are many more brands, but these are my favorite.
Only one point of light for the vanity area?
If the point of light is only over the sink, it will create shadows on your face that are unflattering if, for example, you need makeup. That is, considering only this type of lighting for your vanity area is not recommended.

Lighting for the specific tasks of a vanity area
The bathroom vanity is the place where you do many activities among them: your morning and night cleansing routine, you put on your makeup, you comb your hair, you brush your teeth and where your partner shaves. The ideal thing to properly light your vanity area is to have a light that is at eye level and located on the sides of the mirror. In this way, you can minimize the effect of shadows and achieve adequate lighting.
The ideal color temperature for your bathroom
If you put on makeup almost daily, I recommend that the color of the bulbs you use should be 4000- or 4500-degrees Kelvin (or cool white). This description can be found in the package of the bulb that you buy, or the category of light color is indicated, which would be a cool white.
This is because when you put on makeup, you use colors and tones that are best to be similar as possible when you put on makeup with artificial light than when you do it with natural light.
Most recommended options to choose vanity lighting
01
Sandblasted glass luminaires installed at eye level, which can be hanging or wall sconces.

02
Transparent luminaires located above eye level to avoid glare.

03
Vertical wall sconces. They are my favorites because you can choose between different models and finishes, and the lighting is more uniform on the face.

04
Indirect light in the mirror and suspended lights.

05
Lighting from the mirror is quite functional, although it does not give much versatility in the decoration.
