Our embroidered pillows from Colca Valley
When working collaboratively, artisan and designer contribute with our knowledge and experience. This is how we managed to create unique designs inspired by the Scandinavian style and handmade by Peruvian artisans π
Our throw pillows are embroidered by artisans from the city of Yanque in the Colca Valley. Vilma Mamani gathers twenty women, who stand out with machine embroidery, known in southern and central Peru as maquinasqa. These embroideries show the richness and color of the Andean worldview ππ½
The technique consists of drawing the designs of the flora and fauna of the Collagua and Cabana cultures with the sewing machine, without having traced the drawings previously. Among the designs are hearts, chamomile and cantuta flowers, bird figures such as a partridge or a sparrow.
If you visit any city within the Colca Valley, you will find women wearing the beautiful embroidery on their suits and hats. Itβs an awesome experience! π€©
