Scandinavian design and Peruvian craftsmanship Prehistoric Aliens by Glimpt Studio

Last week I wrote an article about collaborative work between artisan and designer. And some years ago, I discovered the project that Glimpt design studio did and their visit to Peru.

The Swedish designers Mattias Rask and Tor Palm created Glimpt studio in 2010 and joined their two passions: design and travel. They have traveled around the world in search of innovative production techniques developed by traditional communities in South Africa and Vietnam.

And in Fall of 2012 they decided to travel to Peru to learn a little more about the work that Don Bosco Artisans do. For this reason, they stayed in the city of Yungay, where they were amazed by artisan´s wood carving technique. This led them to create a line of coffee tables called Prehistoric Aliens. It is made with wood from the region, including a hard-white wood called Lengha and a type of cedar.

According to them, the most difficult barrier was the language, since Mattias and Tor do not speak Spanish. But that was not an impediment to communicate with the artisans.

It is amazing the products that can be achieved when these creators (artisans and designers) work together, don´t you think?

I think you can achieve great things via collaborations as long as you willing to see things through other eyes.. These are very lovely.
