Let yourself be captivated by the Beni Ouarain rugs

Morocco is a country with a lot of traditions and cultural diversity. For that reason, its cultural and artistic manifestations are very recognized all over the world. And for us who are lovers of decoration and a house that reflects our trips and adventures with pieces from around the world, we could not miss writing about these textiles in the blog.

This country has different regions and ways of making of its rugs such as Boucherouite, Beni Ouarain or Azilal. Today we see a bit more about the beautiful Beni Ouarain rugs. Surely, you've seen them more than once in interiors in decoration magazines, Instagram or Pinterest. But did you know anything about their making and the tradition behind them? Here I tell you.

These rugs are handmade mostly by women from the Beni Ouarain tribes. These tribes live in the depths of the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. To make the rugs, they place the looms on the floor and use 100% undyed sheep wool.  This is the reason for their neutral colors and the easy adaptation in different styles of decoration.

It is easy to recognize them by their neutral color and geometric lines or better said symbols. These symbols are designs that represent themes such as fertility, birth, protection, among others; to aspects of the daily life of each weaver.

Undoubtedly, an artisan piece with a lot of tradition and beauty. Have you ever visited Morocco?

Big hug,

Fiorella
