The times we live in today compel us to reflect on ourselves as human beings, our environment, and our planet. Some countries with more severe restrictions during the quarantine have made us realize that our home is always our little oasis. Therefore, I would like to offer you some ideas to transform your living room into a comfortable and inspiring space for today and beyond.
Lighting is a crucial factor in interior design, especially when it comes to natural light. Natural lighting can provide comfort to our living room, which is even more essential during quarantine, as it is the social area where we spend a lot of time with family and friends, and sometimes even work.
Wide windows. If your house/apartment has these types of windows, then you are lucky. Having a large amount of natural light enter your room is very beneficial as it can help save energy and highlight the colors of your floors, furniture, and decorative elements.
Small windows. If your windows are small, mirrors and walls in light colors will help a lot. Thus, achieving a larger room.
Wood, wool, cotton, linen, and wicker are desirable materials for decorating a living room. The current health crisis and quarantine have shown us the importance of staying healthy and how our planet can regenerate. This includes everything that is around us, such as our clothes and our homes. Therefore, natural materials play a fundamental role in our well-being. They can create beautiful color combinations and bring warmth to your room, while also allowing for the combination of various textures such as cushions, blankets, rugs, curtains, and more.
The living room is one of my favorite places in our house, and I’m sure many of us have a preferred spot to relax, whether it’s a sofa or an armchair. Creating a designated reading corner is a great way to make the most of this space. It’s important to position the reading corner near a window where there’s plenty of natural light. I recommend adding a table, a corner shelf, a low bench, or any other surface where you can enjoy a good cup of tea or coffee. Comfort is key when it comes to a reading corner, so don’t forget to add some cushions or blankets to make it cozy.
Add color to your living room. When we talk about colors, they can be applied on a wall and to decorative objects (ornaments, paintings, textiles, etc.). As we already know, bright colors and white help to illuminate the space.
While colors such as red, green, yellow, blue, they attract a lot of attention and can be the protagonist of your space.
Flowers and plants
Plants and flowers delight us with their bright colors and make space stand out. Plants can give a color accent to your room.
Small plants. They can be placed on the coffee table accompanied by some books, on shelves next to some pictures, next to the window, or on the same windowsill (we can have privacy if they are tall like orchids).
Medium or large plants. We can place them in any room corner, next to a sofa, or next to a window.
Flowers. They are very charming and accompanied by a beautiful vase; there is no doubt that it predominated in our room. We can place them on coffee tables, side tables, and shelves.
EXTRA: If you have small children at home
During quarantine with small children, it’s common to have toys scattered around the house, especially in the living room. The challenge is putting everything back in its place. One solution is to create a designated storage area in your living room for their favorite toys. Decorative baskets next to the sofa, baskets under the coffee table, or boxes inside a piece of furniture are all excellent options for keeping things organized and tidy.
